How to Use This Calculator
Take a hydrometer reading before adding yeast (Original Gravity) and another when fermentation is complete (Final Gravity). Enter both values above to calculate your wine's alcohol content.
Understanding Gravity Readings
Original Gravity (OG): Measured before fermentation. For grape wines, typical OG ranges from 1.070 to 1.100. Higher OG means more sugar available for alcohol production.
Final Gravity (FG): Measured after fermentation stops. Dry wines typically finish between 0.990 and 0.998. A higher FG indicates residual sugar (sweeter wine).
